Let's Talk About DAOs
Add to the calendar
Hi!

So...it's been quite a while since we had a proper oldschool Ethereum Denver meetup.

Thanks to a collaboration with Future of Web3 (another Denver crypto community), that'll be changing in just a few weeks.

Join us on Wednesday, October 11th for an evening all about DAOs.

Have you ever pondered some of the following questions?

"What the hell is a DAO?"

"How can I get involved in a DAO?"

"Why would I ever want to join a DAO in the first place?

"What makes DAOs unique and special?"

"What are the unique challenges that DAOs face?"

"What should I be considering if I want to build a DAO-based community?"

If this is you, this meetup will be right down your alley. You'll hear from Josh Forman, who has ample experience at ShapeShift DAO; his talk will take you on a journey through its first 18 months.

More about the speaker:

Josh is a 30-year technology veteran, with 15 years in management, 5 years in crypto as the Director of Engineering for ShapeShift, and the first Engineering Workstream Leader at ShapeShift DAO. He now coaches individuals and teams in general leadership and engineering-specific practices. He holds a Master's in Organizational Leadership, is a certified Agile Leader through the Scrum Alliance, and is a certified Agile Leadership Journey Guide. He is currently on the ShapeShift DAO Treasury Management and Diversification Committee.

(I'm a former contributor at ShapeShift DAO, and will be offering my experiences/insights as well.)

To round out the evening's theme, this event is also sponsored by ShapeShift DAO. It's a very cool platform and community. But make no mistake: this sponsorship doesn't mean we'll sugarcoat things or overlook the challenges of DAO'ing it. It's *really hard* building out on the frontier. There is no blueprint for success; in many respects, we're making this shit up as we go along. Yet at the same time the journey can be incredibly rewarding and exciting.

By relating these unique challenges and experiences, we're hoping to put you in a better position to make your own informed decisions.

Even if you're not particularly interested in DAO's, this meetup might help enrich your crypto life by affording you an opportunity to hang out with likeminded people. There will also be pizza, beer, and kombucha.

Venue: Laundry on Lawrence (2701 Lawrence St #18, Denver 80205)

We'll open the doors at 6:00, allow an hour for pizza and beer (as is tradition), and kick off the presentation at 7:00.

Very special thanks to Valeria Kholostenko, who helped to conceptualize this event and has been instrumental in building Future of Web3.

Lastly, I wanted to take a moment to spread the word about another local crypto community called Denver BitDevs–a group dedicated to "...hosting workshops and group discussions to enhance your technical skills in bitcoin, whether you're new or experienced. We encourage bringing a friend or family member along who is interested in learning more." Learn more and join the community here: https://www.meetup.com/denver-bitdevs/

At Ethereum Denver we're always happy to spread the word about local Bitcoin events. Maximalism is a pox on the entire crypto space and only benefits the centralized institutions that blockchain technology seeks to disintermediate. Bitcoin and Ethereum are foundational technologies for a freer, fairer, and more prosperous world. Learning about both is a great way to prepare yourself for this brighter future.

OK, that's enough for now. Looking forward to hanging out soon!

Cheers,

Kent
